Vaonis Vespera Smart Telescope Review

The Vaonis Vespera Smart Telescope is the newest and simplest way to photograph the universe. Great for gatherings with family and friends, star parties and sidewalk astronomy. This smart telescope tracks the motion of the stars across the sky allowing for long exposure astrophotos. The photos are stacked as the telescope continuously takes these exposures to reduce noise and enhance detail and color. The entire experience is controlled through your smart device using the Singularity app.

The telescope itself houses a 50mm color corrective optic, an internal battery for hours of usage on a single charge, and a state-of-the-art, highly sensitive camera that photographs any object of your choosing! The Vaonis “Singularity” application dictates your entire experience and it is incredibly intuitive.

After powering on your Vespera and connecting to its Wi-Fi via your smart device, the app will guide you to the home screen where you will “initialize” the scope. By doing so, the scope will automatically start taking photos of the stars to determine its pointing location and will follow up with an autofocus routine. Once finished, your initialization process is complete and you are now welcome to explore the app at your own pace!

The app offers several recommended targets as you scroll through the menu from left to right. Galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae of all sorts are included within these recommended targets. The search bar allows you to do a custom search for any specific target of your choosing. At any time during the photo-taking process, feel free to save your image as a full resolution .Tiff file for post-processing in your preferred external software! Now remember - the longer you have your Vespera pointed to an object, the more detailed and colorful it will be! The app offers recommended total exposure time for each target as well.

The “Plan My Night” feature is extremely useful for those who want to hop around from galaxy to star cluster several times throughout the night. You can select several targets per night and determine how long you want to photograph each of them! For our first night out with this scope, we selected the Double Cluster in Perseus, The Dumbbell Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the Great Pegasus Cluster. The scope flawlessly centered and tracked each target for up to an hour!

This scope is not necessarily for the dedicated astrophotographer (but can be enjoyed by everyone) but rather the amateur astronomer who wants to share their passion for the night sky with all of those around them. There is no fiddling with camera and scope accessories here, just pure enjoyment of everything the cosmos has to offer.
