Easy Operation!
Just how easy is creating Milky Way photos with the Move Shoot Move Nomad Starter Kit? Very! All you'll need is a mirrorless or DSLR camera, a photography lens, a 3/8" tripod, the included Calibrated Pointer for alignment and Ball Head to position your photography camera; a second ball head or a wedge may also be required, depending on how adjustable you tripod is. Start by leveling your tripod, and install a ball head or wedge if needed. Attach the Nomad to your tripod, and unthread the large red ring on the star tracker. Remove the platform, attach the Move Shoot Move Ball Head with the camera and lens installed, and then reinstall the platform by simply slotting it back into place and tightening the ring down. Attach the Move Shoot Move Calibrated laser pointer to the Nomad, turn it on, and point the green laser point projected in the sky over the alignment point for your hemisphere; for the Northern hemisphere this is simply Polaris, in the Southern hemisphere this is a point between the Octant and Southern Cross. Slide the switch on the Nomad to the correct hemisphere, and you're ready to begin taking pictures!

Simple Star Tracker, Superb Results!
The Move Shoot Move Nomad Starter Kit is designed to make Milky Way photography simple, with an easy to use interface, photography equipment connection, alignment options, and build. With this powerful portable tool, you can create incredible astrophotos of our galaxy's dust lanes without all the headache or hefty equipment!
Star Tracking Simplicity
Counteracting star trails and
capturing longer exposures with the Move Shoot Move Nomad is simple! There's
no app, hand controller, or button interface with this star tracker, just a
slide switch to turn the Nomad on and put it in step with the sky. This has
three positions to allow you to select between the Northern or Southern
hemisphere, or to turn the device off. Just line up your Nomad, setup your
camera and lens, then slide the switch to your hemisphere to put your
pictures in sync with the Milky Way!
Perfect Pairing for Your Photography Equipment
The
Move Shoot Move can carry up to 7.7 lb. of equipment, making it perfectly
suited for your photography camera and lens! While the Nomad shines
brightest with wide angle lenses, this capacity can comfortably carry a
mirrorless or DSLR camera with a telephoto lens and a 3/8" ball head like
the included
Move Shoot Move Ball Head. Attaching this can be done easily, with the top of the movement platform
held in place with a tool-less retaining ring — simply unthread the
large red textured ring, lift the platform out of the Nomad, attach your
3/8" photography equipment and lock it in place with the small rotation lock
screw, and then replace the platform and tighten the red ring down. This
allows you to install your photography equipment even when the Nomad is
installed on a tripod! Speaking of, mounting your Nomad to a tripod is also
a simple process. With an Arca-Swiss style foot and 3/8" mount, you'll be
able to connect your Nomad to most standard photography tripods on the
market today. For tripods with limited or no adjustment for aligning this
star tracker, the Nomad also pairs beautifully with the 3/8" tripod
compatible Move Shoot Move Ball Head or
Wedge
(sold separately)!
Quick and Easy Alignment
More forgiving than
telescopes the wide angle lenses that pair perfectly with your Move Shoot
Move Nomad can produce star trail free images with a simple alignment, and
with the
Move Shoot Move Calibrated Pointer with Nomad Adapter
included in this Basic Kit lining up your Nomad is quick and easy! This
handy accessory attaches to the back of your Nomad and projects a green <5 mW
Class 3R laser point on to the night sky, highlighting the point your star
tracker will rotate around. By simply lining this point up with the
celestial pole for your hemisphere, you'll put your equipment's rotation in
step with the night sky and unlock longer exposure times! The Calibrated
Pointer is powered by a removable 16340 lithium battery, which can be
recharged with the included battery charging accessory.
* Please Note: Your calibrated laser pointer may come with an insulator
installed which prevents the laser from turning on in transit. Unscrew the
rear cap and remove the thin white insulating disc and reinstall the cap
when ready to use.
Always exercise caution when using the laser, as directly looking into
the beam or its reflection can cause permanent eye damage.
Friendly Framing Adjustment
Keeping in step with the
stars as they sweep across the sky is a large part of creating an incredible
Milky Way photo, but framing plays a big part as well! While wide-field
lenses can capture a large swath of the sky, to ensure you can make the most
of your frame or perfectly place the foreground you need to be able to
adjust you need to be able to adjust where your camera is pointed. This is
where Move Shoot Move's Ball Head attachment comes into play! Connecting to
the Nomad's axis, this ball head gives you a wide range of angle
adjustability along with 360° of rotation to help you find your perfect
shot. Simply loose the easily adjustable locking knobs, move your camera,
and then tighten the knobs back down to lock your camera in place!
Ultra Portable, Solidly Built
At just 3.5" x 2.6" x
2.2" in dimension and 0.95 lb. in weight, the Nomad just about disappears
into a backpack or photography bag! Portable doesn't mean poorly built here
— with the Nomad solidly made with CNC aluminum parts, premium
anodized to a stylish and durable finish. Within this robust housing is a
rechargeable lithium battery that is rated to run your Move Shoot Move Nomad
for 5 hours, comfortably covering a night of Milky Way imaging! After your
imaging session, you can easily refuel the Nomad from a USB power source
through the USB-C port; perfect for the mobile device chargers and portable
battery banks commonly in use today, and ensuring you'll be able to prepare
for the next night of imaging wherever you are!
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need a star tracker to capture a photo of the Milky Way?
The night sky is dark, and even under the clearest skies, most cameras will struggle to capture the faint details of the Milky Way. You can account for this by dialing back your cameras shutter speed and increasing the exposure time. This will allow your camera to collect light over time; however, since the Earth is constantly rotating, it will also cause the stars to appear to stretch across the sky. To solve this problem, you need a star tracker, such as the MSM Nomad, which is a small, motorized camera mount that slowly rotates your camera at a speed necessary to account for the Earth's rotation, effectively allowing you to capture vivid photos of the Milky Way.
What tripod is recommend for the MSM Nomad?
The MSM Nomad features an Arca-Swiss dovetail with a built-in safety stop screw and a standard 1/4" threaded hole for broader compatibility. We recommend the highly portable Apertura Compact Aluminum Tripod. Having put this tripod through its paces, our team of gear experts can attest to its performance, making it a great pairing your Nomad.
What is the maximum load of the NOMAD?
The MSM Nomad has a maximum payload capacity of 7.7 lbs (3.5 kg), making it perfectly suited for your most photography cameras and lenses.
What is the maximum focal length to get sharp images?
The MSM Nomad is primarily designed for wide field astrophotography, such as Milky Way landscapes, that are typically captured with a DSLR or mirrorless camera and wide lens. However, with an accurate enough polar alignment, you can use successfully capture astrophotos though lenses and lightweight refractors with up to a 200 mm focal length. Using longer focal length optics will require more accurate alignment, so be sure to use the included MSM Calibrated Pointer or pick up a Move Shoot Move Polar Scope, Adapter, and Illuminator Kit for your Nomad!
