Celestron Omni XLT 150 Reflector Telescope

Galileo didn’t need a computer on his telescope and neither do you!

Experience a real feeling of discovery with the Celestron Omni XLT 150 telescope! This 6” Newtonian reflector lets you get all the glory when you look in the eyepiece and see the splendor of a deep-sky object like the Orion Nebula gazing back at you. Unlike a fully computerized telescope that does all the work and just takes you along for the ride, the Celestron Omni XLT 150 lets YOU do the exploration; it lets YOU enjoy the sense of accomplishment earned by lassoing a galaxy that is millions of light years away, and corralling it in the confines of your telescope’s mirror so that you can take a look. The Omni XLT 150 is a solid workhorse, a telescopic instrument that Isaac Newton would have given his eye teeth for!

If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It!

Seriously, a classic telescope like the Celestron Omni XLT 150 is not overloaded with a multitude of bells and whistles. Instead, Celestron concentrated on the timeless quality of the CG-4 German Equatorial mount and the clarity of the 6” diameter optics…the business-end of the telescope. There is no need to worry about the cold affecting batteries or computer electronics, no need, in fact, to worry about power at all! The Omni XLT 150 is a manual telescope, and if you want it to move up and a little to the left, you move it up and a little to the left!

The Celestron Omni XLT 150 Telescope Has An Outstanding Mount!

The built-in setting circles of the Omni XLT CG-4 mount will help you find objects by letting you dial in their star coordinates. These coordinates, called right ascension and declination, can be found on a star chart (yes, they are still in print!), online, or within a program like TheSky, Level 1, which is included in the Omni XLT 150 package.

The Celestron Omni XLT 150 sets up quickly without tools, and it is easy to adjust when you want to move from one location to another in the sky. You can either unlock the levers on the RA and/or Dec axis and make large, sweeping movements to your heart’s content, or use the slow motion control knobs to make, you guessed it, slow, more measured movements. The large handles on the slow motion control cables make them easy to find and manipulate in the dark.

The Omni XLT 150 Reflector Comes Equipped with 6" Diameter Hand-Figured Quality Optics

The optics of the Celestron Omni XLT 150 are hand-figured of the finest glass and are coated with Celestron’s famous StarLight XLT coatings. With great glass and high-transmission coatings, you will enjoy bright, sharp, high-contrast images for many years to come. The 2" Crayford-style focuser holds the eyepiece, your window to the celestial realm. The focuser of the Omni XLT 150 moves smoothly in or out by turning the over-sized focus knobs. It is quick and easy to change eyepieces, thereby changing the magnification and field of view of the subject of your inquiry. To give you a little help zeroing in on an object, an easily accessible 6 x 30 finderscope sits above the optical tube assembly. Once you have aligned the finder to the telescope (a five minute procedure), you can use it to find and center an object at very low power (6X), and then that object will be in the field of view of your eyepiece as well!

Talk About A Tripod....The Celestron Omni XLT 150 Comes With A Rock Solid Tripod That Eats Vibrations For Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner!

The tripod of the Omni XLT is pre-assembled out of the box and is sturdy and functional. The Omni XLT tripod has 1.75” diameter stainless steel legs that are height-adjustable. An accessory tray sits strategically between the open tripod legs to add support and stability to the set-up, and it just so happens to be a good place to put your extra eyepieces when not in use.

Learn the Night Sky Like a Pro With The Celestron Omni XLT 150!

There are lots of reasons to choose a non-computerized manual telescope like the Celestron Omni XLT 150! One of the biggies is that you will need to learn a little bit about the patterns of the constellations. Knowing your night sky has multiple benefits. You will have an easier time finding your way if you get lost at night; it sounds pretty romantic when you can point out Orion’s Belt or the Big Dipper to a significant other, and if you have kids, camping trips or nights outside watching for meteors take on a whole new light. The main reason I love knowing the night sky, however, is the enhanced sense of place I feel when I look up. I am on my planet, and that is my sky, and if I travel to a place where the skies look different, I know I am elsewhere, not because the signs are in Norwegian, but because I know my home skies so well.

The first time I ever looked through a telescope I was out in the desert in an attempt to see Halley’s Comet. One of the leaders of the group had a very simple telescope, and in about five minutes, I had learned enough about using it to explore on my own. I did not know the sky at all, and so I pushed the telescope around while looking through the eyepiece, hoping to land on something interesting. When I would find a star or other object that grabbed my attention, I would come to a halt abruptly and stare. This was my star-gazing method, and while it wasn’t very scientific, I have never forgotten that night and the sense of discovery I had each time my eyepiece landed on a new object. I didn’t know what they were, I didn’t know how they got there, but I felt as if I was an explorer, and somehow those objects earned a place in my heart that others, found by my more knowledgeable friends, could never have secured.

If you have a pioneer spirit, and enjoy the feeling of a sense of accomplishment by learning how to do something for yourself, then you are the perfect match to the Celestron Omni XLT 150 Newtonian telescope! Someday computers might take over the world, but for now, you can travel the road to celestial enlightenment on your own, with a good telescope, a star chart, and a sense of wonder.
