THE INDUSTRY'S BEST TELESCOPE AND ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY EXPERTS
Look, we get it. Stating that we’re the “best” can seem a bit like a catch. However, with a combined astronomy experience of over 115 years (117 to be exact), our team of telescope and astrophotography experts, a.k.a. "Gear Experts", knows astronomy and how to service our customers.
We know how to narrow down the products that best fit YOUR needs, rather than push something simply because it’s easy. Once we’ve done that, we ensure you understand WHY we’re recommending the product by teaching you the concepts behind the product and in the process, we demystify all the terminology. Leaving you with confidence knowing you are making the right decision and one that is perfect for you and your goals of viewing the night sky!
Our knowledge is only surpassed by our passion for this wonderful hobby we all love so much. We truly believe our team is a cut above the rest and we look forward working with you!
NON-COMMISSIONED PRODUCT ADVISORS
Our team of product advisors know what it’s like to buy astronomy equipment for the first time. There are so many types of telescopes and accessories that the process can be overwhelming enough without having to worry about pushy salespeople trying to make a big commission.
That’s why our unbiased, non-commissioned product advisors’ only incentive is to recommend a product that they truly believe is the right choice to help you meet your goals, and at a price point that also meets your budget. There’s never any pressure to buy, and you can rest assured that your recommendation is personalized for you rather than motivated by financial gain. We look forward to helping you start your astronomy journey!
Experience the Wonders of the Night Sky Like Never Before with the Celestron NexStar 8SE!
Looking for a powerful, future-proof, and intuitive system as your first telescope, or an upgrade from something you currently own? Then look no further than the Celestron NexStar 8SE. The largest-aperture scope of the NexStar SE series, the 8" provides over 1.5 times more light gathering power when compared to the 6SE. While the 6SE is still a fantastic telescope the difference in light gathering is undeniable! The 8SE utilizes Celestron’s latest NexStar + USB hand controller and provides access to over 40,000 celestial objects at your fingertips! Viewing just a single object a day would take you a lifetime to see them all! Optically, thanks to Celestron’s patented XLT High Transmission coatings and the 8" aperture, the 8SE will yield brighter images that are, crisp, clear, and high contrast when viewing Jupiter, Saturn, the Moon, Orion’s Nebula and many, many more wonders of the night sky. Coupled with a sturdy Alt/AZ (altitude and azimuth--up/down; left/right) mount and tripod and using Celestron’s easy 1,2,3 SkyAlign Technology, finding and locating objects is a breeze. With a total combined weight of just over 32 pounds you’ll certainly be using this as often as the skies permit!
We understand that seeing how a telescope is set up can often mean the difference for amateur astronomers looking to get into the hobby or upgrading. As such, our team of non-commissioned Gear Experts have created two videos showing you the ins and outs of setting up the Celestron NexStar SE series telescopes, as well as how to begin taking beautiful planetary images! Check them out below!

- "Putting into words what this telescope means to me personally is hard. This was my first telescope back in 2013. Besides viewing the planets and deep sky objects in incredible detail, I took my first astrophoto of the Orion Nebula through this telescope. A short 5 second sub exposure completely changed my life and is why I am currently devoting my time and efforts to astrophotography and sharing the cosmos through the High Point Scientific YouTube Channel. Under dark skies, the views of deep sky objects through this telescope are spectacular. Under suburban skies, the craters on the Moon look like you could simply reach out and touch them. What a scope!"
Large Optics. Precision Mount Technology. Portable and Versatile. The Celestron NexStar 8SE Has It All!
Learn more about these amazing features as we dive into them in greater depth below, showcasing the value and performance which has earned the Celestron NexStar SE-series telescopes a soft spot in the hearts of our Gear Experts as one of the most important telescopes to inspire the next generation of amateur astronomers and night sky enthusiasts alike!
Large 8" Aperture with Starbright XLT High Transmission Coatings
The largest-aperture telescope in the SE series, the 8" comes in at over 1.5 times more light gathering power when compared to the 6SE. Coupled with Celestron’s Starbright XLT High Transmission coatings which maximize light transmission and clarity, the 8SE gives you unparalleled access to the night sky. With optics designed to provide the best of both visual and photographic worlds, seeing details on the craters of the Moon as well as bands on Jupiter are well within your reach! For those deep sky enthusiasts, 8" of aperture is highly regarded as the baseline for great views of M42(Orion’s Nebula), M13 (Hercules Globular Cluster), and other deep sky objects!
Fully "Go-To" Mount and Tripod Using Celestron's Latest NexStar + USB Hand Controller
Utilizing Celestrons lastest Nexstar + USB hand controller, the Nexstar SE mount is a fully "go-to" object-tracking/retention system that contains a massive 40,000 night sky catalog to choose from. Additionally, the proprietary SkyAlign technology and Sky-Tour options make locating and tracking your favorite objects a breeze! Simply add 8 AA batteries, or a 12V power supply and you’ll be ready to use the full might of the Nexstar + system!
Portability is Key!
With a combined weight of just over 30 pounds the Celestron Nexstar 8SE is easily one of the most portable systems around! When broken into its individual components the tripod and mount make up around 20 pounds and the optical tube assembly is around 12 pounds. Again, making this a highly transportable system for backyard observing or with the addition of a portable power supply, perfect for camping or taking to your favorite dark sky site!
Celestron's Ecosystem of Accessories
The Nexstar SE is arguably the single most important telescope in recent times, and as such Celestron has developed a myriad of amazing accessories to outfit your system to fit your viewing or imaging pleasure. Whether you want to control the movement through your smartphone or tablet using the SkyPortal WiFi module, remotely focus for planetary imaging using the focus motor, or control condensation through Celestron's dew heater rings. The NexStar SE family of telescopes provide an almost limitless upgrade path! Outgrowing your Celestron NexStar 8SE is a thing of the past.
Visual or Photographic Use? Why not Both!
With a large 8" aperture Schmidt Cassegrain optical design providing 2032mm of focal length, paired with the fully tracking Nexstar SE mount and tripod, you don’t need to choose between purely visual, or taking pictures of the night sky. Included in the Nexstar system is a 1.25" diagonal and 25mm plossl eyepiece providing you a full disc image of the Moon right out of the box! Replace the eyepiece with a planetary camera to begin taking fantastic images of Jupiter, Saturn and much more! Or get a 2x Barlow and see the planets up close with your eyes. Attach a proper solar filter and you can even view/image the upcoming solar eclipse in October 2023, and April 2024! Whether for visual or photographic use, the NexStar 8SE’s versatility provides almost limitless upgrade and accessory options!

Celestron Hard Rolling Case for 8/9.25/11 SCT or E...
Protect the optics of the NexStar 8SE by storing the OTA & Mount in this padded carry case from Celestron. The retractable handle and wheels make moving it around way easier than standard carry cases. A zipper compartment can hold small accessories.

Apertura Universal Tripod Case
Protect your telescope tripod from scratches and dings by storing it in the Apertura Universal Tripod Case! Once the tripod is safely in the case, the carry handles and ergonomic shoulder strap make it way easier to carry!

Astrozap Flexible Dew Shield with Side Bar Notch f...
Dew can quickly ruin a night of observing, but there are ways to keep it at bay on all but the wettest of nights. Wrap this flexible dew shield snuggly around the end of your 8SE telescope to delay the formation of dew on your telescope's corrector plate. A dew shield also prevents stray light from bouncing off your optics and reducing contrast.

Apertura 2x 1.25" Barlow
A 2X Barlow is one of the most popular telescope accessories available because it doubles the magnification of any 1.25” you use with it! For instance, the NexStar 8SE comes with a 25 mm eyepiece. Without the 2X Barlow, the eyepiece will produce 81X magnification. However, when used with the Barlow, you'll enjoy 162X views. For every eyepiece you buy thereafter, you will get two magnification options instead of one!

Apertura 15mm Super Wide Angle 1.25" Eyepiece
The Celestron NexStar 8SE comes with a 25 mm that produces 82X magnification, which is a great medium power eyepiece. This wide angle 15 mm eyepiece will give you 135X magnification; a good all-around magnification for the planets and other “smaller” celestial objects once you have located it with your 25 mm. If you were to add a 2X Barlow to the mix, you would get 162X with the standard 25 mm eyepiece and 270X with this 15 mm, which really bumps up the power on a good night of seeing.

Apertura SCT Collimation Knobs
If you are looking for an easy way to do a quick adjustment during observations or more specific collimation for imaging, these SCT collimation knobs from Apertura are the perfect solution! Using these collimation knobs will improve your imaging or observation experience because you will no longer have to worry about bothersome adjustments using the factory-supplied Phillips screws.

Apertura Universal 5 AMP AC Adapter
Your NexStar SE can run on 8 user-supplied AA household batteries, but you can also plug it into an AC wall outlet with this inexpensive AC adapter. Save your batteries for times when you're observing in remote locations.

Apertura Optics & Sensor Cleaning Kit - 20 Piece
This comprehensive cleaning kit from Apertura has all you need to make sure your SCT optics are clear and able to deliver top performances. Each item of the kit has been selected to make sure your optical surfaces can be cleaned and free of blemishes caused by dirt, fingerprints, and other particles. The components are also designed to be delicate enough not to scratch the lenses or mar optical coatings.

Celestron 12V 7 AH Power Tank Portable Power Suppl...
Pick up this Celestron 12V 7AH power supply and you’ll be able to power your telescope whether you’re in your backyard or out in the middle of nowhere. It comes with a cigarette lighter adapter that goes from the Power Tank to your Celestron NexStar SE mount. Also great for camping, road trips, or emergency power at home.

Celestron SkyPortal WiFi Module
The NexStar 8SE mount comes with a corded hand controller, but if you’d like to use your smartphone or tablet to wirelessly control your telescope, then you’ll need the SkyPortal WiFi Module! Just load the free Celestron SkyPortal app onto your device, plug the WiFi module in, connect your Apple or Android smart device to the signal the module generates, and start observing!

Celestron NexYZ Universal 3-Axis Smartphone Adapte...
Want to take pictures of celestial objects through this telescope with your smartphone? This adapter holds a wide range of smartphones and attaches to the eyepiece to hold your camera steady for quick shots of the Moon, planets, and more. It also works with binoculars, microscopes, and spotting scopes!
